Language researchers from around the world will present their work and share ideas in the fields of gender and sexuality at a conference in Wellington this week. The 5th International Gender and Language Association Biennial Conference will interest those who want to know more about how language interacts with genders and sexualities in modern usage, say the organisers. Guest speakers include Mani B. Mitchell, founder of Intersex Awareness New Zealand, who will present a Beyond Boundaries talk about the use of language outside the square of gay/straight/man/woman. Don Kulick, an esteemed language and sexuality expert from New York University, will talk about language and lesbian humour, and is one of a number of scholars from diverse regions of the globe who will present at the conference. Hosted by Victoria University, the conference will take place at the Pipitea campus beside Wellington Station, for three days beginning on Thursday 3 July. Contact details and more information about the conference is available on the link below.
