TVNZ has scheduled Torchwood - a British science fiction drama starring a bisexual space action hero from the far future - for broadcast late on Wednesday nights beginning next month. Torchwood's Captain Jack Harkness Torchwood's sexuality-fluid boss Captain Jack Harkness has been dropped off in present-day Cardiff, where there's a rift in space/time. Together, he and his top-secret team must deal with the aliens and objects that appear from the rift. Openly-gay actor John Barrowman plays Captain Jack. Throughout the series, several of the main characters have same-sex encounters at some point. Among the aliens at large are a mind-reading nymph and a Cyberwoman. An adult spin-off of the Doctor Who series, Torchwood has so-far run for two years of 13 episodes each in the UK, to critical acclaim and respectable ratings. Torchwood will be broadcast on TV2 each Wednesday night at 10:30pm from 9 July.
