From businesspeople to authors, the famous (and infamous) to the unknown, the UK's Independent newspaper has listed the 101 gay and lesbian Britons who have influenced the nation over the past 12 months. BBC radio journalist Evan Davis earned the top spot for his influential and intelligent broadcasts, and TV drama writer got second place for his revival of Doctor Who - with its "seamless, subtle introduction of homosexual characters into Saturday prime-time telly." Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Elton John, author Alan Bennett, comedian Alan Carr, TV host Graham Norton, author Sarah Waters, Stephen Fry, historian David Starkey, and founder of gaydar.co.uk Henry Badenhorst all featured on the list, among DJs, MPs, Civil Rights campaigners, artists and even a TV illusionist.
