2.20PM: Auckland police have just confirmed that a body found yesterday in an apartment in Karangahape Road is that of respected gay doctor, Matt Wildbore. Dr Matt Wildbore Following a post-mortem this morning police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Wildbore lived in the apartment between Karangahape Road and Myers Park. For over twelve years he was GP to many gay people and during the frightening early days of the HIV/AIDS epidemic had what is believed to be the biggest caseload of HIV positive people in the country. He sold the practice eight years ago and was latterly the medical director of a large North Shore Accident and medical centre. Wildbore's personal empathy with his patients, and particularly the HIV positive ones, was a contributing factor to the burnout which saw him sell his practice and move into medical administration. "Matt had great empathy with his patients," according to Body Positive spokesperson, Bruce Kilmister, who says he chatted with Wildbore only a few days ago. "He always wanted what was best for his patients and would do as much as possible for them... he was always there for them." Wildbore's next of kin have been advised of his death, details of funeral arrangements have yet to be advised.
