With three live bands, surprise shows, DJs, two dance levels open, and a weekend on the Gold Coast to be won, the third anniversary of Auckland's Flirt women's night this Saturday "is going to rock like you won't believe" says promoter Sarah Lambourne. Big birthday bash: Flirt girls The line-up begins at 10pm this Saturday 21 June at the Crest Hotel on K' Road. Live musicians include acoustic rock duo Roadies, experienced rock/pop band This Side Up, and shock-hiphop act Mass Debate (see each band's MySpace pages linked below). Flirt's resident DJ's Wanda, Tenali and Dee will spin discs in between live sessions, and a surprise drag show will grace the downstairs level around midnight. The organisers of Girlfest - the women's annual weekend on Brisbane's Sunshine Coast - will also appear at Flirt's birthday night, promoting this January's festival and giving away two single weekend passes to the event. "This is a great example of the Aussie and Kiwi lesbian communities working together, something we hope to continue to grow in the future," says Lambourne. Flirt started in June 2005, as an unpretentious and fun social night for lesbian and bi women. The popular event - which features uniformed Flirt Police who help single partygoers connect and flirt with other singles - now happens twice each month at Crest Hotel on the corner of K' Road and Pitt Street.
