Chch says "Yes!" to more LGBT events

A survey of seventy people who attended events during Christchurch Pride Week last month has found a need for more events for the LGBT community in the Garden City. Christchurch: All dressed up but nowhere to go? Jill Borland of Twist Events ran the survey during events at the Civic complex, and now tells GayNZ.com that the results "showed overwhelmingly that people were keen to support new GLBT events in Christchurch. "We were really thrilled by the response from women in particular who were really keen to 'have their say' with many approaching the surveyors and asking to complete the survey forms – that's never happened before for sure," she explains. 90% of those surveyed responded 'Absolutely!' or 'Yes' to the question 'Would You Support New GLBT Events?' Some added other information such as 'especially if they were youth support focussed' or 'if they were parties with good music' or 'of personal interest/sensible.' Females surveyed were asked if they would support 'Women's Only' events, with 92.5% responding 'Absolutely!' or 'Yes'. Some added comments like 'if they were held in nice bar'. Only 3.78% felt that there were sufficient Women's Only events running currently and therefore no need for new events, and 3.78% suggested they preferred to attend 'mixed' GLBT events rather than Women's Only events. The survey's results also gave insights into what people preferred doing in their leisure time, how they travelled to and from events and what they preferred to drink when out and about. Borland says she's encouraged by the survey results and aims to produce some new public events for the GLBT community in the near future.
