Sun 15 Jun 2008 In: International News View at Wayback

One of them gave us Queer As Folk, the other gave us Lily Savage - and now both talented and openly-gay British television greats have been recognised in the UK's Queen's Birthday Honours List. Russell T. Davies (Photo: BBC) Russell T. Davies created cult TV series Queer As Folk, and later successfully resurrected Doctor Who. The Welshman told the BBC he was delighted to accept an OBE honour, "and I hope it does the whole industry a bit of good, for the writing of television drama to be recognised." TV comedian and TV host Paul O'Grady was given an MBE. O'Grady found fame as his game show host drag persona Lily Savage. He asked the BBC modestly: "What have I done to deserve it? I've just sat there night after night banging out telly."
