The 1969 New York riot which gave birth to the Gay Rights Movement will become a video game to coincide with this year's Gay Pride celebrations in New York City and San Francisco. Stonewall brawl: A scene from the new Flash game The gameplay hearkens back to popular retro video games like Streets of Rage and Ninja Gaiden - and early titles for the game included Streets of Drag and Ninja Gayden. Orner and Laird hope that the online Flash-based game will educate younger LGBT folks on the events that led to the reason we are able to celebrate Gay Pride today. The Stonewall Riots were a series of violent conflicts between LGBT people and New York City police officers that begun during a police raid on a gay bar. LGBT people had never before acted together in such large numbers to forcibly resist police harassment directed towards their community.
