Family bar's popular fa'afafine karaoke host Cindy Filo will appear on the next episode of TV One's talent show Stars in their Eyes. Stars In Her Eyes: Cindy Filo But the programme's producers have urged GayNZ.com not to reveal which famous singing star she transforms into for the show. Filo is well-known to gay Aucklanders as 'Cindy of Samoa', singing karaoke each Wednesday night at K' Road's Family bar. She has also sung live on stage at many LGBT fundraisers and theme nights. The Samoan-born songster says she filmed her appearance on the show back in April. "They provided the whole look - you just turn up there as yourself and they take over," she explains. "It took the whole day. We turned up there at ten in the morning, and had to do costume fittings, hair and makeup. There's also rehearsals, and the final recording, which for some people took a few takes," she giggles. The experienced live performer says she wasn't phased by the cameras and live studio audience. "Some of the others were a little nervous - but I was the mad character of the whole group." She has nothing but kind words to say about host Simon Barnett: "What a humble man. He's so lovely and down to earth. It's great to see people that you look up to as celebrities are like that. Really warm and nice. "I'd do it again, definitely," she says of her Stars in Their Eyes experience. "It's great exposure to appear on TV. It was a fun experience, and wonderful to meet some people who enjoy singing as much as I do." The Stars in Their Eyes episode featuring Cindy Filo will be broadcast at 8:30pm on Tuesday 10 June on TV One.
