K' Rd's queens celebrate Queen's Birthday

Sun 1 Jun 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Tomorrow's a public holiday, so, as always, some of Auckland's gayest bars are celebrating the extra day off with special events tonight. Competition at Family bar's drag shows can be fierce! Contestants in Family bar's Queen of all Queens drag competition will get the chance to be an on-stage diva for the night, with the winner receiving a ticket on Air New Zealand's Pink Flight to Sydney Mardi Gras next February, along with $500, a bottle of bubbly and other mystery prizes. The pageant begins at 8pm, with the bar open with no cover charge until 6am Monday morning with music from DJ's Starli and Tangli. K' Road's Kiss bar welcomes party-goers to its Ultra-Royale night from 9pm until late, featuring DJ Marty, sexy DJ Station dancers, laser lights and drink specials through the night. Meanwhile, gay-male hotspot Urge bar's regular public holiday-Eve Underware Party has sold out. From 9pm, guests will arrive and leave their clothes with staff and relax in their underwear as they enjoy drinks and the resident DJ's music in a no-attitude atmosphere. GayNZ.com will feature pictures from K' Road's Queens Birthday events in coming days. Wherever you are and whatever you're doing, have a safe and fun long weekend.
