Mon 19 May 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A documentary film about camp cult classic movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be made next year, and now the film's producers have sent out a casting call for actors in starring roles. Rocky statue on Hamilton's Victoria Street The King's Stiletto's is shooting in Hamilton in Autumn 2009, but the cast need to be in place by July to film the trailer. Rocky Horror creator Richard O' Brien, who grew up in Hamilton, is one of the roles open for actors to audition for. The ideal actor would be around 30 years old, average height, British, thin, awkward and somewhat clumsy, says the film's producers at Thinking Room Productions. "He can be a charmer but can also turn nasty pretty quickly. Richard feels more comfortable in women's clothing, but hides his feminine side." Also still needed are actors to take on other roles including Tim Curry ("handsome, quiet and charming with a sexy laugh"), Australian director Jim Sharman ("gay, but not camp") and Dr. Scott ("50ish, dancer, may need to use wheelchair"). "Some roles require partial nudity - mostly in underwear," the film-makers also specify. Auditions will be held at the New Place Theatre at the University of Waikato, beginning 30 June. Video auditions for actors not able to attend the casting in Hamilton will also be accepted. More details and contact information is available on Thinking Room Production's official website on the link below.
