The owner of Christchurch's Cruz nightclub says he's pleased - and a little surprised - at how many scene-goers have nominated themselves and their friends in the venue's inaugural awards ceremony tonight. One-offs: Cruz Awards trophies Cruz's Bruce Williamson has commissioned hand-made trophies for each of the five categories (shown above). Cinderella represents the Teen Queen winner, Abe Simpson in his car represents the Speed Queen - the bar-goer fastest to new trade – an ogre represents the Sex God, a smoking bear is Most Inebriate Lush, and a little rabbit is Most Likely to Wake Up in a Strange Bed. Cruz regulars have been voting online and on forms at the bar to ensure the prizes go to the right people. Williamson says the Cruz Awards should begin a while past Midnight tonight, after the official Mr and Ms Christchurch Pride ceremony finishes at Miss Mole's Flamingo Bar. Good Morning host Steven Gray and Christchurch's much-loved 'Trannie Granny' Jacquie Grant will MC the Cruz Awards tonight, and Wellington-born drag star Pollyfilla will return to NZ to perform at the event.
