Putting it Together: The cast at rehearsals Following up from their successful recent production of favourite gay urban fairytale Beautiful Thing, Auckland Music Theatre brings another song-filled stunner to the live stage. Stephen Sondheim, the seasoned composer of musical masterpieces such as Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Company, brings together a collaboration of stunning pieces in this clever and thought provoking view of life. Putting it Together is a selection of musical numbers chosen by the composer himself and placed in a sophisticated party setting - providing a different slant on some well-known and some more obscure pieces. Freed from the requirements of their original formats, these songs give further insights into the human condition, as revealed by one of Broadway's best over the last 50 years. And yes, laughter is permitted. Originally presented off-Broadway in 1993, starring Julie Andrews, it was reworked and presented in 1999 on Broadway, starring Carol Burnett. Auckland Music Theatre is presenting the latter version. With the talented five-piece cast of Richard Neame (director of recently appreciated Beautiful Thing) Jane Horder, Cameron Clayton, Verity Burgess and John Hellyer, this is an event that is guaranteed to entertain from beginning to end. 'Put Together' by a creative team with vast musical experience, John Fausett, Robyn Kennerley and Marita Gillespe, we are promised a highly polished and well-thought-out production. With the ability to provide intimacy and closeness in performance, the Westpoint Performing Arts Centre is the perfect venue for a piece that is sure to touch the hearts and souls of audiences. GayNZ.com proudly supports this entertaining autumn evening of stunning music, evocative dance and thought challenging themes. Booking details are on the link below.
