Registrations into a range of sports including rugby, athletics, running, swimming, water polo, canoeing, football, badminton, dancing, archery and mountain biking are now open for participants in Manchester's Pride Games taking place from 7-14 September 2008. "The week comprises fun events, tasters and competitions. There is always something for everyone at Pride Games," said Trevor Burchick, Co-Director of Pride Sports. "In 2008 we are really excited to have introduced two new events – Squash and Mountain Biking," added Co-Director Lou Englefield. "We also have a big opening event on Sunday 7 September in Alexandra Park, which we are hosting with Open Athletics." The Fun Day, will incorporate Open Athletics' regular 5k Alexandra Park Run, as well as a Community Relay Race, in which teams of three will all run a lap of the course, passing over a novelty baton to the next runner. Other highlights of Pride Games this year include a Grand Ball during the evening of 13 September for all participants. "It will be an evening for all athletes to get together, have something nice to eat and watch some great dancing. There is an opportunity for everyone to get on the dance floor, although, obviously this isn't compulsory!" laughs Trevor. Lou added: "We want more people than ever take part in this year's Pride Games this year. We are therefore holding preparation dance workshops and a squash course in the lead up to the festival. "The course is aimed at players of all levels, so whether you are a complete beginner, an improver or just want to hone your skills for that winning edge on the day, the course is for you". The organisers say the online registration system has been improved for this year and that participants can sign up to their chosen sports almost immediately.
