Steven Oates' weekly gay chat and music show Sparkle on Sunday will now be streamed live and free on the internet, ALT TV have announced. Steven Oates From tomorrow, Auckland's alternative music channel will live-stream all its content via their website, with internet service provider Orcon promising "high-quality images and killer sound". "I'm quite excited by the prospect of Sparkle On Sunday being accessible to a global audience via the internet," says Oates. "I know it has been in the works for quite a while and now the fact that it is really happening is great." Oates says his show would not exist without the generosity of guests who make the effort to come into the studio and share something of themselves. "I'm really proud of the fact that we have been going for well over a year almost non-stop, and have featured a huge variety of people from all corners of our queer communities. "I look forward to continuing and improving the show within this new and far-reaching platform. I also want to thank GayNZ.com for their generous support from day one," he adds. ALT's Creative Director Oliver Driver says ALT's internet live video streaming is a first for New Zealand television. "For the first time, viewers of a television channel will not be chained to bunny ears or set-top boxes and by using a simple internet connection will be able to bypass the big old sets entirely," he explains. The 'go live' on the channel's website tomorrow coincides with the launch of Kiwi Music Month, with promotions and live local acts broadcast planned throughout May. ALT TV is also available on Sky channel 65. Sparkle on Sunday airs for an hour each Sunday evening at 6pm.
