K' Road's finest divas raised a queenly sum of $3,249 for the Cartier Bereavement Charitable Trust at ANZAC Eve's Wigarama night of drag entertainment, says Trust spokesperson Karen Ritchie. Draggin' in the dollars: Delta Goodroot with Karen Ritchie Dozens of glittering entertainers - a who's who of Auckland's best-known drag artistes and featuring two Sydney diva guests - took to the Family bar stage on Thursday evening to support the charity which helps to fund funerals for people who have died of an AIDS-related illness. "All the stars were out, and it was a happy atmosphere all night," says Ritchie. "We're elated, and just want to thank all the performers for another wonderful event." Family bar boss Wayne Clark, who contributed a percentage of the bar take to the gold coin bucket collection, said it was a busy night, with partygoers then heading downstairs to Supermarket club after midnight: "In the early hours, it was the biggest night down there I've ever seen - it was just huge for us." The money raised was substantially more than last year's $2,429. A fourth Wigarama night is planned for 2009, continuing what has become an annual tradition.
