Gay TV watchers honour Ugly Betty

TV comedy/drama Ugly Betty has been honoured by an American LGBT lobby group at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Honoured: Ugly Betty The show was named outstanding comedy series for the second year in a row at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards. Brothers recognised for their efforts in fighting discrimination at the ceremony in the Kodak Theatre - the home of the Oscars. Comic Kathy Griffin was also given an award for her reality TV show My Life on the D-List. A recent episode was filmed on Air New Zealand's Pink Flight from San Francisco to Sydney. Both Ugly Betty and Brothers and Sisters - which also received the same prize last year - feature prominent gay or transsexual regular characters. Ugly Betty features flamboyantly gay assistant Marc St James, played by Michael Urie, and transsexual editor Alexis Meade (Rebecca Romijn).
