The full week's schedule for Christchurch's 2008 Pride Week has now been confirmed, with 26 events announced for 10-18 May. Pride Week will begin with a Family Fun Day on Saturday 10 May at the Hagley Park Tennis Courts, hosted by Rainbow Families. The 'Pink Carpet' VIP premiere of a major documentary film chronicling six decades of Christchurch's gay community happens at the Regent Cinema on Worchester Street on Saturday evening, with tickets being sent out to invited guests involved with the film and the local LGBT community. Called Through Rainbow Coloured Glasses, the documentary will also get public screenings at the cinema through the week, before showings around New Zealand and the international film circuit later in 2008. Sunday is the Lambda Trampers Pride Week Walk through some of Canterbury's most beautiful scenery, and both Rainbow Labour's Pride Week Meeting and 30 Years On - Anniversary Pride Catch-Up happen in the evening. A wide range of events feature during Chch Pride weekdays. The NZ AIDS Foundation are hosting HIV updates and activities which promote better health and safer sex for gay men, Centennial Pool are hosting a swim meet, Canterbury and Lincoln University's queer groups meet for lunch, a quiz night will be held at The Civic, and an underwear party called Brief Encounters happens at Menfriends. The second weekend is Pride Week's party time, beginning with the annual Pride Women's Night at The Civic on Friday evening 16 May, and also singer-songwriter Pene Kingsford performing at Miss Mole's Flamingo Bar. From 11pm at The Civic will be the Mr and Ms Pride 2008 pageant, presented by LGBT telephone support service OUTline, and featuring special guest NZAF Poster Boys Josh and Liam. The Gay Playback Theatre group invite you to an evening of sharing moments and stories from their lives, played back by their lovely lesbian line up of actors and musicians, from 7pm on Saturday evening at the Southern Ballet Theatre in Chch Arts Centre. Later that evening, Miss Mole's Flamingo Bar and Zinc Bar at The Civic will host the dress-up madness of UniQ and PolyQ's Heroes and Villains Party. Christchurch Pride Week ends with the 25th Anniversary AIDS Candlelight Memorial - remembering family and friends who have been lost to HIV/AIDS - at the Great Hall of Chch Arts Centre from 7pm. Pride Week organiser Hamish Milne says there's still time to get involved with the week of events, and invites interested people to get in touch with him to volunteer. Hamish Milne can be reached via email at hamish.milne@nzaf.org.nz, or for inquiries about the candlelight memorial, please contact Laura Jones at laura.jones@nzaf.org.nz.
