AKL: Art show for Thursday's SoHomo night

Mon 14 Apr 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

A showing of artworks from acclaimed local gay artist Richard Orjis - along with other random artistic surprises - will feature at this fortnight's 'Art Special' SoHomo clubbing night this Thursday on K' Road. A recent artwork by Richard Orjis "Richard Orjis is going to show a selection of stills and a video on various projector screens set up around the venue," reveals promoter Paul Phillips. "His work fits in superbly with the aesthetic of the whole gig." Wanganui-born Orjis, 28, completed a Masters of Fine Arts at Auckland University's Elam Art College, then worked, studied art and showed works in Spain and America, before returning to New Zealand to base himself in Auckland. In keeping with the creative theme, Phillips plans to chalk out quotes from homoerotic poetry on the pavement outside the venue on the night. DJ acts Andrew Tidball, A.D.A.M. and Babes! Babes! Babes! will also feature at the event, to be held upstairs at 373 K' Road from 9.30pm this Thursday 17 April.
