A poetry reading event called In the Sapphic Tradition will be held this Saturday at Auckland's new lesbian 'herstory' museum - thought to be the world's first museum solely devoted to lesbian artifacts. The Charlotte Museum opened in February with a showcase coming out stories from the 1950's through to today in their show Remember Us: Women Who Loved Women from Sappho to Gay Liberation. The museum displays memorabilia of early New Zealand women who lived with and loved women, and includes a variety of Labrys, domestic ware, lesbian ceramics, 1,700 lesbian-themed books and many early lesbian community magazines from New Zealand and around the world. This Saturday 12 April's poetry event starts at 2.30pm, with readings from Heather McPherson, Fran Marno, Stirling, Jill Brame and others. "It's open mike, so bring your own work," says organiser Miriam Saphira. The Charlotte Museum is located at Unit 6, Level 2, 58 Surrey Cres, Grey Lynn, with opening hours usually Thursday to Saturday 12-4pm.
