The New Zealand AIDS Foundation's revamped Wellness Fund is a great step forward for HIV+ New Zealanders, says support network Body Positive Auckland. An entirely new Wellness Fund replaced the NZAF's old Fund this week, promising much more money, two new types of grants, and an easier-to-follow application process. "We're delighted," says Body Positive's manager Bruce Kilmister. "People can now access higher amounts - and we're accessing it for the Aquamid treatment to combat facial wasting. We've got another twelve people undergoing the treatment this weekend." NZAF National Positive Health Manager Eamonn Smythe explains that the Foundation did already have a Wellness Fund, started a very long time ago, but it was only for amounts of $300 a year. "This is an entirely new fund that has replaced the old one, and considerably expanded on it," he tells GayNZ.com. "The old one was severely underutilised for a long time - and the paper work was a nightmare to work your way through. Now the whole thing's been streamlined." Smythe says the response to the new fund has already been very encouraging. "We've already got a little pile of applications here, and we've had many emails from around the country about it. So you can tell already that it's going to go very well."
