The Kapiti Coast District Council will introduce new beachside rules after complaints about nude gay men on the dunes at Peka Peka. Peka Peka beach Parents living near the beach, located 10km north of Wellington, had complained to the council about the effect of "highly visible nude men" on their children at the beach, reports the Dominion Post. The council will include a clause in its draft 2008 bylaw that "no person shall remain on any part of the beach in deliberate view of others in such a state of undress as to cause concern". The beach is well-known as a gay cruising area, but is not an official 'nudist beach'. However, under the new regulations the council can pass a resolution by public notice to declare part of the beach a "defined area", which could officially mark it as a nudist space.
