AKL: Shocking Pinks to play live at SoHomo

Tue 18 Mar 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Acclaimed Indie band Shocking Pinks have announced they will play a half-hour live set at this Thursday's SoHomo alternative Auckland gay club night. Shocking Pinks "Musically, Shocking Pinks is hard to describe, but if you tried to picture the bastard offspring of My Bloody Valentine, The Stooges, Liquid Liquid and Fleetwood Mac, you'd be halfway there," says SoHomo night promoter Paul Phillips. The band consists of Vaughan Williams on bass (ex D4, Fanatics), Tim McDonald (ex Incisions) on drums, Harte's girlfriend Emma Rosenberg on keyboard and Nick Harte on guitar and vocals. Having releasing three albums in NZ, Shocking Pinks has recently inked a four-album contract with New York-based DFA records, with an accompanying licensing deal to EMI UK. The band plan to base themselves in London in coming months. This Thursday 20 March's SoHomo night happens in its usual venue upstairs at 373 K' Road - one of the only venues in town with a late alcohol-serving license despite the Good Friday public holiday the following day.
