Tue 11 Mar 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Hungarian tourist Ferdinand Ambach - accused of killing gay Onehunga man Ron Brown in December 2007, remains in police custody after a brief Auckland District Court appearance this morning. Ambach's lawyer James Falauto and Hungarian interpreter were not at court with him today for his bail hearing. The court heard that Ambach's previous activities in Hungary are still under investigation. Ambach was again remanded into custody until he appears before the court again on Tuesday 1 April for a pre-jury hearing. Brown's neighbours called the police in the early hours of Saturday 6 December 2007, after hearing piercing screams and shattering glass from his house. Police found Brown severely injured but clinging to life downstairs in his trashed and blood-spattered home, with Ambach still upstairs. Brown died two days later when his life support was turned off.
