NZAF Board lifts 'default' role from ED

Mon 3 Mar 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

9.00PM: The role of Trust Board Secretary is about to be separated from the responsibilities of the NZ AIDS Foundation's chief executive, in a move the board hopes will free up the Executive Director to concentrate fully on staff and management matters. NZAF Board Chair Mark Henrickson New NZAF Trust Board chair Mark Henrickson says the recently revised and adopted Trust Deed of the Foundation has brought with it "an array of requirements that include bringing organisational manuals into alignment with it. A new Board secretary role will allow that work to move forward with a minimum of disruption to existing staff responsibilities." On a practical level the only major change, according to Henrickson, is that the Executive Director, Rachael Le Mesurier, will have less day-to-day responsibility for overseeing tasks that are primarily administrative support to the board, "such as typing up minutes, collating board papers, etc... thus freeing up more of her time to fulfil her own job responsibilities." Board secretaries are becoming "reasonably standard" in community organisations, says Henrickson, "and an organisation of the NZAF's size and scope generates an enormous amount of routine paperwork that flows to and from the Board." The Foundation's Executive Director has until now filled this administrative role by default, says Henrickson. "It is a thankless but essential role that ensures Board members get the documentation they need in a timely way in order to keep the organisation moving forward." The Foundation has publicly advertised for a person to fill the Board Secretary role, the job specs can be viewed via the link below.
