Wigs on the Waterfront has become a regular Auckland summertime attraction drawing large and predominantly straight crowds to watch a diverse range of music, song and dance throughout the afternoon, with a strong emphasis on drag routines. Organiser Wayne Nicholas says some of New Zealand’s “most popular performers and drag artists” will strut their stuff, “and any persons that wish to be involved on the day are welcome to contact me.” Outline NZ is a volunteer based service which was set up in 1972 to provide support, information and counselling to gay and lesbian people, their partners. Money collected during Wigs on the Waterfront will assist with the ongoing costs of recruitment and training of their counselors.
