New MP for Rainbow Labour next month

Wed 20 Feb 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Louisa Wall List MP Louisa Wall will be sworn in as a Member of New Zealand's Parliament on Tuesday 4 March, and since she happens to be a lesbian, she'll join Chris Carter, Charles Chauvel, Maryan Street and Tim Barnett as a member of the 'Rainbow Labour' MP team. Following the departure of Northcote list MP Ann Hartley, Wall, a former Silver Fern netballer from Auckland Central, will take her place. Including the National party's Chris Finlayson, Wall's entry means there will be six openly-gay or lesbian New Zealanders with seats in Parliament. Wall, 35, has formally worked as a policy analyst in the race and ethnic relations team of the Human Rights Commission. She is a former New Zealand netball and rugby representative and newspaper sports columnist.
