Persistent complaints by a resident of the Auckland suburb of St. Heliers about nude men 'flashing' and engaging in sexual behaviour on beaches in the area has lead to an increased beachside police presence after dark. Gentlemen's Bay and Ladies' Bay have been unofficial 'nudist' areas for decades, but the concerned St. Heliers resident points out that the beaches are now listed on international websites as gay meeting spots, leading to an increase in sexual activity between men - both under cover of darkness and in the daytime. The women, who did not want to be named for fear of repercussions, says she has witnessed men engaging in sexual acts and 'flashing their genitals' and is concerned for young people in the area.
