A police phone line will be answered live this afternoon by a gay-friendly Diversity Liaison Officer in the hope that gay or bi men will more readily come forward with information about the late Ron Brown. Ronald Brown Brown, a gay man, was found barely clinging to life in his Otahuhu, Auckland, home on December 8th and two days later died in hospital. A Hungarian tourist found in Brown's home has been charged in connection with the death. Police say they are having difficulty making contact with men who might have had sexual or social contact with Brown in the past. They believe there must be a number of men on the fringes of the gay community who can help them build up a character study of Brown. Diversity Liaison Officer Brent Clark will take calls on the phone from 1pn to 7pm today, in the hope that such men may feel more comfortable speaking with him. Clark says that although the police must keep records of information supplied in case it is useful in court, the identities of the men offering the information need not be revealed in court. The phone number to pass on any information about Brown to Brent Clark is 09-524 1926. Clark can also be contacted any time by email: brent.j.clark@police.govt.nz.
