The Wellington Foyer on level two of the capital's Te Papa museum is set to sparkle this weekend as dozens of 'girls' from around the globe - and around our solar system - compete once again to be crowned Queen of the Whole Universe. Museum pieces: QWU stars to shine on Wellington stage An encore performance of the QWU pageant was requested as part of Te Papa's 10-year anniversary celebration. The free 12-hour festival of music, dance, workshops and floor talks is planned for this Saturday 16 February from 10am – 10pm. Other highlights throughout the day include the reprisal of Gareth Farr's composition Te Papa performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and guest singers, celebrated Indonesian dancer Didik Nini Thowok performing with the Gamelan Orchestra, a special kung fu performance by the world-renowned Shaolin Monks and Te Papa curators showcasing precious objects from the collection. The Queen of the Whole Universe pageant - an abridged version of the show staged last November at Auckland's Aotea Centre - will begin at 8:45pm and end in time for the audience to experience at firework show outside by Te Papa's waterfront at 10pm. Wellington bar SubNine on Edward Street will host a 'meet the cast and crew' event later that evening, with performances on stage after midnight from selected members of the QWU cast.
