The building that was home to Wellington's LGBT nightclub Imerst will now be converted into office space, says the bar manager who was hoping to take over the lease and relaunch the venue. "The landlord didn't want a nightclub in there anymore," confirms former Imerst bar manager Neil Howland. "Wellington's going to look for another dance venue," he adds. Rumours have circulated about Imerst's reopening since its Dixon Street doors closed in mid-December. For several weeks, Howland had been negotiating a deal to re-open the three-level building as a new-and-improved LGBT night spot.
