Queer Cinema 'Godmother' to speak in NZ

The independent film producer dubbed 'the Godmother of Queer Cinema' is on her way to New Zealand to speak at events in Wellington and Auckland this week. Christine Vachon A New York resident, Christine Vachon produced a wide variety of acclaimed independent LGBT-themed films including Boys Don't Cry, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Stonewall, Party Monster and Velvet Goldmine. She was ranked 44th in the US Out magazine's 2007 list of 50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America. Her book, Shooting To Kill: How An Independent Producer Blasts Through Barriers to Make Movies That Matter, was an LA Times bestseller. Killer Films, the company Vachon runs with her partner Pamela Koffler, has won numerous awards and celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2005 with a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Taking place in Wellington tomorrow evening and Auckland on Friday evening, the 'Conversation with…' events with Vachon are free for members of the local film industry and will be in the form of an interview followed by a question and answer session.
