The producer of TV2's late night GLBT show The Outlook says the series may not return, but he's planning a special television event for mid-2008 looking at the 30th Anniversary of Sydney Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras stars for NZ screens? "The feedback we got about The Outlook was overwhelmingly positive and encouraging," explains the show's producer Glenn Sims, now Managing Director of television production company Redflame Media. He says a second series for 2008 is in doubt however as Redflame is fully committed to a number of other prime-time television productions this year. Sims has spoken with other leading gay TV producers about opportunities that may be on offer within TVNZ for gay programming. He believes TVNZ and NZ On Air are still committed to local programmes for the LGBT communities. Redflame is beginning work on a one-off hour-long programme for TV2 looking at Sydney's Mardi Gras Parade and Party through the eyes of GLBT New Zealanders, which will be produced by Sims and directed by ex-Queer Nation director David Herkt. The production company are currently on the lookout for LGBT Kiwis who will be heading to Mardi Gras for the first time this year. "March 2008 will see thousands of gay and lesbian people from around the world enjoy Sydney Mardi Gras' 30th anniversary events. The past 30 years have seen radical changes in the political landscape and we want to capture what that means to Kiwis," says Sims. "From the campness of Air New Zealand's Pink Flight through to New Zealanders who were seduced by Mardi Gras and decided to make Sydney their home, as well as looking at how Mardi Gras has changed over the past 30 years". If you or someone you know is heading off to Sydney Mardi Gras this March and would like to be part of the one-off programme, contact Redflame Media via email: info@redflame.co.nz.
