Now Chch will crown its best Fag-Hag

Wed 30 Jan 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Following on from the success of the recent Fag-Hag contest at Wellington's FAG party, the owner of Christchurch's LGBT nightclub CRUZ says he's pleased to announce the inaugural Miss Southern Fag-Hag Contest. Bruce Williamson says Wellington's drag diva Lady Trenyce will MC the event to crown the best straight girl friend to gay guys on Saturday 16 February, with cash prizes on offer. Williamson lays down the rules: "Entry forms now available at the bar. All entrants must be nominated and seconded by two guys, with only one entrant per each two guys - There is just so much interest already that we need to thin them down." Earlier this month, Veronica Mills became Wellington's Miss Fag-Hag 2008 at a special event in SubNine bar. She says she's not too sure what a Fag-Hag is, except that "it's a girl who has great boy friends who are gay. Friends that they can laugh, party and cry with. It's great friend of the opposite sex without all that boy/girl crap that comes from straight relationships."   Since it seems like Christchurch's recent hot and sunny weather is going to continue, a beach-themed party is also planned at CRUZ on 1 March. "It'll be much more than just a couple of sun-umbrellas and queens in bikinis," Williamson promises. "Prepare to get wet!" Then in late March, Easter weekend will see a 'Homos and Dykes Jelly-Wrestling Contest' at CRUZ.
