Tue 29 Jan 2008 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Auckland's HERO Festival is "the year's festive celebration of our wonderfully diverse and colourful community," running for three weeks beginning this Friday, say the HERO Festival team. A glossy 48-page pocket guide to the entire Festival is now available free from many gay-owned and gay-friendly venues and cafes thoughout Auckland. The HERO launch party happens at Family bar on K' Road from 6:30pm this Friday 1 February. Invitations have gone out to join Miss Ribena and the HERO crew for entertainment and giveaways all night long. Regular HERO events such as The HEROic Debate, HEROic Gardens, the HERO Tennis Tournament and women's workshops at Marco Gallery join several new events this year highlighting theatre, movies and alternative LGBT nights out. The hugely popular Big Gay Out picnic day in Coyle Park will return on Sunday 10 February, and the HERO Party promises spectacular shows and international DJs at Queen Street's grand old Civic Theatre on Saturday 23 February. "We can take great pride in the strength of our ever-growing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community and the HERO Festival is the time to celebrate," says the HERO team. "So get out there and admire the arts, participate in the sports, enjoy the outdoors and party at the parties."
