The Australian-based Kiwi couple making a feature film telling the story of transsexual former MP Georgina Beyer are sparing no expense when filming begins this year - their budget is in the millions of dollars, reports TV3 News. The couple weren't the only film producers interesting in making a Beyer biopic - Hollywood came calling too - but Beyer says she decided upon Australian production company Lone Hand as she was sure the finished film would be of the best quality, "not something just slapped together onto film." Beyer will be working with the producers on the script, but promises not to be too overbearing. Since leaving Parliament in February last year, the former Carterton mayor has had a number of international speaking engagements, including a speech at a Human Rights conference in Melbourne later this month. Auckland transgender musician Ramon Te Wake has been named as one of several actors - including at least one young male actor - taking on the role of Beyer for scenes in the film. As for the other actors playing her, Beyer jokes: "It would be so easy to say someone glamorous like Halle Berry, but totally ridiculous to think it would be someone like that!" Beyer was even offered the role of her own grandmother in the film - but she politely turned it down. TV3 News' video story can be viewed on the link below.
