Brown murder response pleases police

Fri 28 Dec 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

8.00PM: Police investigating the brutal death of elderly gay Auckland man Ronald Brown say they are pleased by the initial number of responses to their request for background information about him. Ronald Brown Brown, 69, was found clinging to life in his Onehunga home after neighbours heard what they describe as piercing screams and shattering glass in the early hours of Saturday December 8th. He died in Auckland hospital two days later after his life support was switched off. A 29-year old Hungarian tourist found upstairs in the house, Ferdinand Ambach, has since been charged with murder. A source within the Glen Innes-based investigation team says there has so far been a good response from the community but they would still like to understand more of Brown's background and character. They are hoping more people in the gay community who knew or had met Brown, who is known to have frequented several Auckland gay venues, will come forward. The initial contact person is Detective Constable Jason Malcolm at the Glen Innes police station, phone 524 1958 or 524 1921. Malcolm says the confidentiality of any people providing assistance will be respected.
