FAG party returns to fill void in capital

Thu 20 Dec 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

3:50pm: Wellington's FAG party will be returning early in the New Year following the sudden closure of Imerst, the capital's only queer nightclub, its organisers announced today. FAG party flyer The FAG party was initially started after the closure of long-running LGBT venue Pound in 2006 and organisers are happy to be back whenever they're needed. "There is definitely a huge gap left in town when gay bars like Pound and iMerst close shop," says Greig Wilson of the FAG party host venue Sub Nine. "So we're more than happy to kick into gear and offer the folk out there a place to party when we can." The up-coming event promises an angle not often seen in gay Wellington drinking establishments. "We like to focus on what the gay guys really like deep down," Greig says. "Men!" The bar will feature, for FAG only, "hot topless bar staff". Organisers also boast about the absence of drag performances. "Of course drag queens are welcome, but let's focus on boys, boys and more boys!" FAG takes place at Sub Nine on Edward Street from 9pm until late on Saturday 5 January. "And we'll be back as often as we can until Wellington gets a new gay bar," Greig promises.
