Murder suspect wanted in Hungary for fraud

Mon 17 Dec 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback View at NDHA

The Hungarian tourist suspected of murdering Auckland gay man Ron Brown in his Onehunga home last week is wanted in his home country over tax fraud. 29-year-old Ferdinand Arbach, who was arrested over Brown's fatal bashing, hit headlines in Hungary for tax evasion worth millions of dollars, reports One News. A fiery car crash exposed his role in an expensive motor vehicle scam, and a warrant was issued for his arrest in October. Arbach will seek bail when he appears in the Auckland District Court tomorrow morning. One News reports that blood samples taken after his arrest will be used to determine whether any attempt was made to drug and stupefy Arbach on the night Brown was attacked. Brown's funeral was held last Friday. Police say he had a huge number of friends and associates.
