Wet weather for Sir Elton tonight in Taranaki

Thu 6 Dec 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Thousands of people have planned to see Elton John's one-off concert tonight in New Plymouth's TSB Bowl of Brooklands venue - but the Metservice weather report suggests it'll be a very wet night outdoors. Sir Elton John: Yellow Brick Road slippery when wet? "The weather's not looking the best," meteorologist Bob McDavitt told the Taranaki Daily News today. As well as lots of rain, it'll be windy and cooler than the past few weeks. This evening's show will feature a number of classic Elton hits together with some songs from his newer albums, promoters say. His signature piano will travel especially to New Zealand for the concert. Perhaps the longest trip taken to experience Sir Elton's solo performance tonight is an 18-hour flight from Arkanas - mother and daughter Cathy Dilback and Madison Thornberry won a radio competition which provided them with flights to New Zealand, a rental car, $2,000 spending money, tickets to the concert and backstage passes to meet their favourite star before he takes to the stage this evening. After tonight's concert, Sir Elton heads to Tasmania for a Saturday night performance. Sir Elton last visited New Zealand in December last year, when 35,000 fans packed Wellington's Westpac Stadium for his concert. The NZ AIDS Foundation raised $11,050 by auctioning off a 'meet and great' with the star on TradeMe.     Ref: Taranaki Daily News
