Jury shown grisly Waipouri death pictures

Wed 28 Nov 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Blood from Palmerston North gay man Stanley Waipouri's battered body soaked through the carpet, underlay and wooden floorboards of his flat, a jury heard yesterday as his murder trail continues. Detective Sergeant Todd McLoughlin showed the jury several photograpghs showing the bloody aftermath of the frenzied 22 December attack in the Rangitikei Street flat. Blood covered many surfaces in the flat and pooled around Waipouri's torso and head, reports the Manawatu Standard today. A neighbour who called the police on the night of the attack told the court yesterday one of the accused - Andre Gilling - was "cocky" at the scene of the crime. When cross examined by Gilling's lawyer, the witness clarified: "Being in a house with a dead body - I call that cocky." The trail is expected to continue until at least late next week.
