Lost and found Hastings man pleads not guilty

Thu 22 Nov 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Hastings gay man Cameron Dormer disappeared, was spotted heading to Wellington on a bus, then found there after a massive police search - and has now said he's "not guilty" of wasting police time. Despite everything, his partner Clinton Hughes is standing by him, and TVNZ reports they are back living together in Hastings. Dormer's disappearance in late September sparked a huge police hunt estimated to have involved around 258 man hours, but in Hastings court today he denied wasting police time - and also pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis and a pipe. Dormer's father and partner were at court with him. The judge's ruling was that he must now go back to New Plymouth to live with his father. Hughes says he's likely to follow his partner there. Meanwhile, in New Plymouth District Court today, a 32-year-old pleaded guilty to making a false statement to police about Dormer's disappearance, and was sentenced to 140 hours' community service.
