Parnell Tuesdays join AKL's new gay nights

Fri 9 Nov 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Auckland got two new gay nights out recently - Sohomo every second Thursday and Fluffy each Friday - and now a Parnell bar owner has picked Tuesday as the gay evening at his venue. Aschton Hansen, the general manager of Metropole at 223 Parnell Road, says the new weekly gay night out beginning on Tuesday 12 November will feature "cocktails and laid-back socialising". "We're open from 4pm, and looking at most people arriving around 7 or 8pm," he says. The relaxed and stylish venue is on two levels, with a scenic lounge looking onto Parnell Road upstairs. Auckland's alternative gay night Sohomo begun last month at the Rising Sun venue on K' Road. Last night's event featured DJ's and live performances including a burlesque group called the Slutty Slut Sluts. Sohomo happens every second Thursday, with the next one scheduled for 22 November. Fluffy Fridays at K' Road's 309 bar - formally known as Kiss bar - begin tonight from 9pm. DJ's Justin Sane, Dee and Marty will provide the 'fluffy' music, while DJ Station go-go dancers move 'fluffily' under full-colour laser lights. Gold coin donations on the night will go to LGBT support service OUTLine.
