3PM: Prime Minister Helen Clark's major cabinet reshuffle, announced this afternoon, sees important new portfolios for two Rainbow Labour MPs. New Cabinet Minister Maryan Street Openly-lesbian first-term MP Maryan Street will take on a Cabinet role, as Minister for ACC and Housing. She will also work with Treaty Negotiations, Immigration and Trade, reports the NZ Herald. Former secondary school teacher and New Zealand's first openly-gay MP when elected in 1993, Cabinet Minister Chris Carter is the new Minister for Education. He will move up to the front bench and also continue to look after Ethnic Affairs. Carter was previously the Minister of Conservation and Housing.
