Gordon Copeland It looks like Christian Coalition II is a forelorn hope now that Gordon Copeland has pulled out. So can Richard Lewis and Paul Adams pull it off? Enough crudity. It may have been obscured by the anti-terrorism alert in the Central North Island (if such it was), but Gordon Copeland and Future New Zealand walked out of the so-called National Advisory Council talks meant to establish a new fundamentalist party, only to be ignored by Richard Lewis and Paul Adams in their turn, when they announced a new "Family Party" to contest Mangere and Manukau. Uh huh. Richard Lewis is a member of Destiny Church, and Adams is a minister within City Impact Church, so are we witnessing televangelists moving into politics here at long last? Taito Philip Field wasn't involved, which leaves one to suspect that the Family Party will materialise in Mangere if he goes to trial, or is found guilty on current bribery and corruption allegations. Ah me. Is it any wonder mainstream politicians and media outlets ignored it? Dividing zero real support by half still yields nil. Craig Young - 17th October 2007
