Beach civil union for former NZ Idol judge

Mon 15 Oct 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News View at Wayback

Former NZ Idol judge Paul Ellis civil unioned with his partner Tobias Grant at a star-studded beachfront ceremony on Waiheke Island recently, the Herald on Sunday reports. Paul Ellis. Photo: NZ Herald Newspaper columnist Wendyl Nissen designed the beach-themed union and conducted most of the ceremony - but since she was only halfway through completing her celebrant certificate papers, she called upon experienced celebrant Jan Scott to "do the legal bits". The union was "a short, moving, deeply symbolic little ceremony," Nissen wrote in yesterday's Herald on Sunday. Kiwi singing star Bic Runga played three songs at the event, and television newsreading couple Alison Mau and Simon Dallow were in attendance - Mau as master of ceremonies, and husband Dallow providing an "off-key" rendition of Sade's Smooth Operator at the reception.     Ref: Herald on Sunday (m)
