Gay club no-show costs Boy George

Wed 10 Oct 2007 In: International News View at Wayback

Singer and DJ Boy George has been ordered to pay more than £30,000 (NZ$80,000) compensation to a gay nightclub in Los Angeles after he failed to turn up at the launch. George had been paid £5,000 for an appearance, but he returned to the UK after his arrest in New York for cocaine possession and only gave the LA club owners ten days notice that he would not be making an appearance. Earlier the 46-year-old had claimed that he was in no state to play in clubs where drugs were being used. At Manchester Crown Court Judge Waksman QC said the LA club had lost earnings because George had failed to show up and ordered he pay more than £31,000 compensation. George completed five days of community service in New York after being convicted of false reporting of an incident. He claimed he had been robbed, but when police arrived to investigate they found a large quantity of cocaine in his flat.     Ref: Pinknews.co.uk (m)
