After several quiet wintery months and resulting financial woes, the manager of Our Bar says she must now close the Wellington LGBT venue. Our Bar staff Sharon, Ricky and Amanda "It's business as usual until this Saturday, then we'll close after that," says Sharon Boyd. Our Bar's opening was a low-key event last October, but the bar had since hosted several popular UniQ, live music and women's events. In June, Boyd appealed for local gays and lesbians to support the business through Our Bar's first winter, and special events were organised to attract more patrons. Since then, it's been "pretty quiet" she says. "It's been great while it lasted. Thanks to all those who have supported us." Since Wellington's long-running gay venue Pound closed in early August last year, gays and lesbians in the capital have also frequented Imerst nightclub in Dixon Street, which re-launched as a LGBT nightclub in the same weekend Our Bar opened. Imerst staff promote a different show or party each week - recent events have included a fashion showcase, a Miss Drag Wellington pageant, and Cartoon Heroes party. This Friday night's event will be a Back to School themed party from 10pm. Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
