Last month's first annual Grand Art Aid Auction on Auckland's North Shore raised at least $15,000 for the New Zealand AIDS Foundation's Burnett Centre, the event organiser confirms. 97 pieces of donated art from dozens of local artists went up for auction on 11th August, which "raised a tidy little sum" for the local fight against HIV/AIDS, says Roy Giddens of the Art Aid Trust. The exact amount of money raised is yet to be confirmed by the accountants, but Giddens can report back that the majority of the funds - at least $15,000 - will be donated to the NZAF's HIV testing and counselling Burnett Centre facility in central Auckland. "And we've still got a few artworks left, which we'll auction off at the end of the year," he says. Giddens also revealed that the Art Aid Auction will have a global flavour when it returns next year. "It will return, but it'll be international, with only around five New Zealand artists in the line-up, and it'll be supporting HIV/AIDS causes overseas." Ref: GayNZ.com (m)
