Miss Mole plans her last Chch Oscars night

Wed 12 Sep 2007 In: New Zealand Daily News

Christchurch's best-known drag icon Miss Mole, known only to herself as 'Barbra Streisand's daughter' has revealed next month's elaborate 25th annual Chch Oscars show will be her last. Miss Mole Mole says she's planning to leave the Garden City and has had offers of employment in the North Island which she's considering at the moment. 500 tickets are already sold for the Oscar show, planned for Labour weekend Sunday 21st October. "It's Christchurch's glitziest and most fabulous event of the year. The biggest show in the South Island," announces Mole. The fabulous old lady of Christchurch, the Civic Theatre on Manchester Street will be transformed on the night. Red carpet arrival starts at 9pm and goes until 10pm. "Greeting arriving celebrities, nominees and the audience on the red carpet will be Auckland's Daphne Bush and Christchurch local Miss Crystal Chandelier," enthuses Mole. The night will be MC'ed by comedienne Miss Laura Torton and Auckland's ever outrageous drag diva Miss Ribena. The four half-hour shows will feature Miss Cindy of Christchurch, Miss Katana, Queen Iva, Miss Naomi, the Divine Miss Joanne Clark, Miss Beverly Hills, Auckland's Miss Kola, the Baroness, the Stella group from Brazil, Hootersville's The Beverly Whorebillies, Miss Pussy Galore, Clark Bent and the Loose Lanes with Delicious Miss and the Hussy Tarts (it's a lesbian thing!), Wellington's Drag Kings and direct from the abbey - The Sinful Sisters - the campest nuns of all time. Mole promises: "Shows will be short, sharp, funky and fabulous." There are seventeen awards to be given away during the evening, to worthy recipients in Christchurch's LGBT community. "They range from hospitality, and icons, to the best actresses, to Mr. Spunky Hunk, the sexiest woman, business of the year, queen of the year, and three lifetime achievement awards this year," the South Island diva explains. Presenting the awards will be Christchurch Mayor Gary Moore, local MP's Tim Barnett and Leanne Dalziel, city councillor Sue Wells, singer Janice Grey, UniQ's Cathleen Quinlivin, TV3's Natasha Utting and several more guests on stage. "Of course the night is fancy dress - we want your glitziest most fabulous costume. If our glowing fairy who'll be running around taps you with her wand, you'll get a fabulous prize." Tickets are $20, and are on sale now from Pandora's Costume Hire, Menfriends and Heaven's Above. There are only 185 tickets left - less than a quarter of the seats - so snap up your ticket quick, advises Miss Mole.
